Description of my ideal company:
I prefer to work in smaller private firms, as it allows you to interact on a much more personal level than your typical larger corporation where you may have less face-time with the people who need your services. I believe IT is a Customer Service position, where IT's primary purpose is fulfill a need, and provide the tools for the user to work independantly. Done properly, this should free up IT staff to concentrate on system and procedural improvements, and more urgently attend to new requests.

I was hired as a full time IT Manager for Valeo, Inc in October of 2000, and I am still in that position. Valeo is a ~$2m wholesaler/distributor of fitness accessories. I have upgraded almost all in house systems, added online security cameras, and doubled our EDI vendor list. Valeo uses SBT Pro 5.0 as it's ERP system. The projects in queue are currently an ERP and EDI upgrade.

I am also employed part-time at Newtek Electronic Payment Processing. Newtek is a credit card processor. There, I am responsible for all desktop, server, and networking systems. I'm also responsible for the phone system. By far my largest responsibility there is maintaining a secure network in accordance with Visa/MC CISP policies. I started consulting to help a former boss with his fledgling company in 2001, prior to it being purchased by Newtek, and became a Newtek employee in January 2004.

Finally, I run a free email service, www.vfemail.net. This was created in 2001 to address the large number of email viruses that were prevalent at that time. It's become almost a 'test-bed' for Spam catching, SQL replication, and uptime management for my other jobs. VFEmail bascially runs itself, I answer very few user questions. Spammers who try and abuse the service are stopped automatically, and cleaned out when I am available.
